Educational Institutions Connecticut Sea Grant http://www.sp.uconn.edu/~wwwsgo/ The Connecticut Sea Grant College Program, based at the University of Connecticut at Avery Point, funds marine research and is a primary source of information about marine and coastal issues, including those related to Long Island Sound. Hudson River Foundation http://www.hudsonriver.org The Hudson River Foundation supports scientific and public policy research, education, and projects to enhance public access to the Hudson River. MYSOUND http://www.mysound.uconn.edu The objectives of this project is to provide water quality monitoring data from Long Island Sound to a broad spectrum of users - enhancing the appreciation, knowledge and use of the Sound. National Sea Grant Depository http://nsgd.gso.uri.edu The National Sea Grant Depository (NSGD), located in the Pell Marine Science Library (University of Rhode Island), houses the only complete collection of Sea Grant funded work which now includes 72,000 documents. New England Environmental Finance Center http://efc.muskie.usm.maine.edu/tools.html NEEFC's Directory of Watershed Resources is a searchable database of resources available to assist with a variety of environmental projects. It includes information on federal, state, private, and other funding sources and assistance. Users can search for programs through a targeted search, keyword search or through an index of federal, state and private sources. The Directory has been updated to include funding and assistance programs that focus on the six New England States. NEMO - Nonpoint pollution Education for Municipal Officials http://nemo.uconn.edu/ NEMO is a University of Connecticut Cooperative Extension System project using GIS to teach local officials about the sources and impacts of nonpoint source pollution, how different land uses affect water quality, and what towns can do to protect water quality. New York Sea Grant http://www.seagrant.sunysb.edu A cooperative program of the State University of New York and Cornell University, Sea Grant focuses on research and the transfer of scientific information to industry, government, resource managers, and the public. Project Oceanology http://www.oceanology.org Project Oceanology provides boats, oceanographic equipment, a waterfront laboratory, instructional materials and staff to enable more than 25,000 students and adults each year to learn about the ocean through first-hand, on-the-water experiences. The geographical area covered by the New York District contains the largest population concentration of any of the Corps' Districts. EPA Stormwater Program http://cfpub.epa.gov/npdes/home.cfm?program_id=6 New regulations by the United States Environmental Protection Agency require municipalities in urbanized areas and operators of construction activities to obtain permit coverage for stormwater discharges. The regulations, under the Stormwater Phase II rule, regulate storm water discharges generated by runoff from land and impervious areas such as paved streets, parking lots, and building rooftops during rainfall and snow events that often contain pollutants in quantities that could adversely affect water quality.
